Automatic Couplings

Automatic couplings enable coupling and decoupling of two or more multiple units to a train set without additional operating personnel “on the rail”. They are activated pneumatically, electrically, or hydraulically.

The layout and size of the couplings are determined by the:

• Number and type of signals to be transmitted (control signals; video signals; bus and data signals; communication, entertainment, and information signals).
• Type of electrical power to be transmitted (up to 800 A).
• Available area to build in.
• Customer-specific requirements.
