Male/Female Contact SystemsMale/female contact systems are used to transmit data and power up to a rated current of 800 A. These contacts are offered in two versions: with silver-plated and gold-plated contact terminals (pins). Gold-plated male/female contact systems are designed to transmit small voltages and currents, which occur with data transmission. Silver-plated contacts are, by contrast, designed for 100,000 mating cycles, and gold for 30,000 mating cycles. The noticeably smaller number of mating cycles for gold-plated contacts is meant to ensure the transmission security with data signals. More details can be found in the product data sheets (see links below). With the male/female contact system principle, the electrical contact is conducted from the pin (terminal) over the segment of the socket (female) contact. With this principle, the bias voltage of the lamella socket creates the necessary contact pressure. The number of individual junctions is smaller with this principle than with the mobile/fixed contact system, which makes the male/female system excellently suitable for transmitting small voltages and currents. |
